DUST ON THE MOON - Fox Trot ("Canto Indio") Ernesto Lecuona The Castilian Troubadours Brunswick 6961 (15703), 1934. "Dust on the Moon" was written by the incomparable Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona as the song "Canto Indio." This record was purchased by my uncle in the 1930s. I found it years ago in a box of his 78s that had been stored in the garage at home. The "troubadour" in the video is from the sheet music for a song called "Broken Moon." The dancers are from a 1931 Hawaii Tourist Bureau advertisement. The caption under the picture reads, "Hawaii nights! Hawaiian moon. And it's not a moon to be trifled with. It is potent . . . bewitching. It dominates the night and the dance . . . (just to look at it is an adventure). Moonlight on the water. Tables under the palms. Leis of gardenias, plumerias, ginger blossoms . . ."

My name is Matthew and I decided to participate in the "Life In A Day" project without any particular reason. I just wanted to shoot some good footage of Tokyo in HD, upload, and share them with people who might be interested in it. I was walking around Shibuya with my video cam just like a tourist. I've actually spent 20 years of my life here in Tokyo, so all of these scenery should have been nothing unusual for me. But the fact that I was shooting, setting myself apart from the everyday routine, and viewing Tokyo from a different perspective (the camera finder) made me realize just how many people swarmed the streets of Tokyo. Way too many people. One look around and you get 'cosplay' girls dressed in Halloween costume and a quick turn will get you 'salaried men' who wear suits that are way too hot for a humid summer day. Then here I am. I'm that foreigner guy who always and I mean always surprises people here when I speak fluent Japanese. There are so many different kinds of people in such a tiny place and how in the world do we get along? I made my way to a jam session that night at Akasaka, which is only 10 or so minutes away from Shibuya by subway. I recognized some people since I saw them at another jam session just the week before. We all talked, ate, and sang. I captured those moments on my camera, and then a flash of light crosses my mind again. "It's music." That was my answer to the question I had a couple of hours ago. Music is how we get along in Japan ...

When we could not find the trailhead a local offered to take us through a shortcut to get to it. He said he was the owner of these rice fields. Pete clarifies directions and asks some basic rice farming questions while I shoot some footage of this short but cool experience. After I prove that I am a dumb tourist by slipping off of the main trail a boy nearby starts hissing at me like an angry monkey. The trail continued for eight kilometers. Relatively speaking our guide spoke very good english.

I was waken up by the announcement that we FINALLY landed, I didn't realize that I have fallen asleep. It is also a base of travel: coaches leave daily for all major tourist destinations in Thailand, from Chiang Mai in the North to Ko Pha Ngan in the South, and there are many relatively inexpensive travel agents who can arrange visas and transportion to the neighboring countries of Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia, as well as Vietnam. Khaosan shops sell handcrafts, paintings, clothes, pirated CDs, DVDs, and second-hand books, plus many useful backpacker items. Patong is a party capital of Asia, with a world famous nightlife and a great beach. Mostly made up of hotels, world class restaurants, nightclubs and various tourist attractions, this is a hedonists' heaven of nightlife, with numerous entertainment complexes and countless bars clustered together in and around Bangla Road and the beach road. The town has a very obvious female, transgender and male sex industry to cater to every taste, however to only view it as this is a mistake, it offers so much more, for families and couples too. Massage parlors of the erotic as well the therapeutic (Nuad Thai) genre provide less alcohol/drug infested venues for punters and wellness seekers. One can even find masseuses practicing this medical art atop bamboo mats on the beach sands (100 baht and up). Prices are higher than in Phuket Town, but there's more budget accommodation here than at the more southerly beaches. This may not be a good destination for the average backpacker, except in the rainy season when prices are far lower. However this is not Patong's stated market, it is fairly and squarely aimed at holidaymakers and does it rather well. Rooming houses ('mansions') a few blocks inland provide nice, clean a/c rooms and suites as cheaply as 300 baht/day (less without a/c), or 3000-10000 baht/month. A Spanish tourist is missing at sea after a Turkish tour boat caught fire and sank in the Aegean region of the Mediterranean. Turkish officials say 18 tourists and five crew jumped into the water after flames engulfed the ship on its way from the Turkish resort of Marmaris on Wednesday night. The moments of the horrific incident were recorded by a helicopter of Regional Directorate of Forestry. The images show how disastrous an outcome was escaped by a hair's-breadth... The incident took place when a fire broke out out of the blue on a touring boat, named 'Kayhan-9', while under-sailing on Wednesday evening. 18 Spanish and Portuguese tourists and 5 crew members were on board the ship when the fire broke out, and all of them but one managed to leave the ship with help of a coast-guards team, who rushed to the scene immediately after the fire. 1 Spanish tourist went missing after the accident while the rest, 17 tourists and 5 crew members, were rescued. 3 of the rescued tourists, Balone Froza (Portuguese, 42), Enes Froza (Portuguese, 16) and Maria Galvez (Spanish, 47), were reported to be injured, and all of the 22 were taken to hospital for treatment. My name is Matthew and I decided to participate in the "Life In A Day" project without any particular reason. I just wanted to shoot some good footage of Tokyo in HD, upload, and share them with people who might be interested in it. I was walking around Shibuya with my video cam just like a tourist. I've actually spent 20 years of my life here in Tokyo, so all of these scenery should have been nothing unusual for me. But the fact that I was shooting, setting myself apart from the everyday routine, and viewing Tokyo from a different perspective (the camera finder) made me realize just how many people swarmed the streets of Tokyo. Way too many people. One look around and you get 'cosplay' girls dressed in Halloween costume and a quick turn will get you 'salaried men' who wear suits that are way too hot for a humid summer day. Then here I am. I'm that foreigner guy who always and I mean always surprises people here when I speak fluent Japanese. There are so many different kinds of people in such a tiny place and how in the world do we get along? I made my way to a jam session that night at Akasaka, which is only 10 or so minutes away from Shibuya by subway. I recognized some people since I saw them at another jam session just the week before. We all talked, ate, and sang. I captured those moments on my camera, and then a flash of light crosses my mind again. "It's music." That was my answer to the question I had a couple of hours ago. Music is how we get along in Japan ...

Of course, it's not really entirely that. I'm trying to teach you some of stuff that you might need to know to live here or visit here =] Subway It's one of two major transportation system in Korea. You can basically get ANYWHERE in Seoul by hopping in to a subway. There are 10 lines working through inside and outside of Seoul, connecting every part of the city. Simple rule is that Koreans are proud people... even with small things. So, try not to act weird. In Korean standard, "weird" would be talking loud, not sitting tight enough, and etc. Think of USA etiquette + extra careful.

Greg, Marijana and Sanja snorkeling off Tsilivi beach on the island of Zakynthos, Greece. While looking for octopus in the rocks offshore, we were totally surprised to find a large sea turtle just in front of us. I had given up any hope of seeing a sea turtle at all on Zakynthos. I thought the turtles were just tourist trap bait or an image to sell beach towels. Yet miles from their traditional nesting sites and quite near the port of Zakynthos we happened to encounter a wild sea turtle and swim with it for some time. Sorry for the quality of this video I had left my card reader at home and had to improvise a solution. Just had to get a rush copy up fast. Shot with Olympus M water. sound track by Julian Tavalin.
