Personally, I think that the first piece in this part, the Spanish dance, was a very poor choice for this class. The choreography is very stiff and prevents any individual characteristics to be shown. An important element of character dancing is to allow each individual dancer to display their individual traits. This choreography is very robotic and prevents the dancers from using their skills. On the contrary, the second piece and the reverance are amazing and particularly, Yulia Stepanova. The choreography allows Yulia to show off her unbelievable gifts. Today is July 18, 2010. In the annals of ballet history, tomorrow, July 19, will be remembered as an important day in ballet history. When ballet historians look back at the career of the world's greatest ballerina ever, July 19 will be the first time that Yulia Stepanova danced a principal role. Tomorrow, the Mariinsky Ballet finishes their 2009/10 season with a performance of Leonid Yacobson's Spartacus and Yulia Stepanova will dance the role of Aegina, one of two principal ballerina roles in Spartacus. Great Ballerina destined for oblivion. судьба великой балерины предназначена к забвению. When you see this video of Valeria Martynyuk dancing the Diamond Fairy and Cat in Puss n' Boots from Sleeping Beauty, choreographed by Marius Petipa, to music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the obvious conclusion is that it is impossible to find a better suited Aurora than this Beauty, Valeria. If Valeria had been born 50 years earlier, the world would know her as one of the greatest ballerinas ever. Her tiny size is comparable to Natalia Dudinskaya, who is considered one of the three greatest students of Agrippina Vaganova , along with the greatest student, Galina Ulanova , and the third being Irina Kolpakova , although many will dispute the omission of others in this short list. Anyway, the tiny Valeria is approximately the same height as Dudinskaya and with the exception of Dudinskaya's amazing speed, power and turns, Valeria is a much better representative of the Vaganova style than Dudinskaya, with her great arms and lovely Vaganova style. Every role that Valeria dances is acted out to perfection as is her dancing, which is always full of energy and joy. As an example, look at her entrance as the Diamond Fairy. Every single grand jete is landed perfectly, unlike almost every ballerina.
